Overview

Technology governance at Georgia Tech ensures that technology investments, priorities, and decisions are aligned with the Institute’s strategic goals, operational needs, and compliance requirements. It provides a structured, transparent approach for evaluating, prioritizing, and advancing technology initiatives across the Institute.

Through defined processes and collaborative decision-making, technology governance enables Georgia Tech to balance innovation with sustainability—ensuring that resources are used effectively, risks are managed, and solutions deliver meaningful business impact, enhance customer experience, and drive engagement.

How Work is Prioritized

Georgia Tech leverages a structured intake and prioritization model to ensure technology efforts are aligned with institutional priorities and capacity. Work is evaluated based on factors such as business impact, urgency, risk, resource availability, and alignment with strategic initiatives.

Requests for technology work are funneled through established pathways:

  • Campus Technology Request (CTR) Process
A centralized intake process used to capture, assess, and prioritize technology needs from across the Institute. The CTR process ensures visibility into demand and enables consistent evaluation and decision-making. Submit a Campus Technology Request >>
  • Project Management Intake
Larger, more complex initiatives are routed through formal project intake and portfolio management processes. These efforts are evaluated, scoped, and managed in alignment with enterprise priorities and available resources. Submit an IT Project Request >>

Together, these processes provide a comprehensive view of technology demand and ensure that work is prioritized and executed in a coordinated and strategic manner.

Governance and Advisory Groups

Technology governance is supported by a network of advisory groups that bring together stakeholders from across Georgia Tech to inform priorities, provide subject matter expertise, and guide decision-making.

Technology Leadership Council (TLC)

Comprised of distributed IT directors from colleges and units across Georgia Tech as well as senior leaders within the Office of Information Technology, the Technology Leadership Council (TLC) serves as a key forum for aligning technology priorities across the Institute. The group provides strategic input, surfaces cross-functional needs, and helps ensure coordination between central and distributed IT organizations.

vCTO Committee

The vCTO Committee brings together technical leaders responsible for Georgia Tech’s foundational infrastructure. This group focuses on architectural alignment, infrastructure strategy, and technical decision-making to ensure a cohesive and sustainable technology environment.
